You can't even turn on your headlights without fiddling with a screen in the Porsche Taycan

No knob for volume, etc.? Fail

You have auto headlights, I’m sure, just set them there.

The driver presumably has steering wheel volume adjustment, so they don’t need a secondary less usefully placed control. The passenger doesn’t need to be looking at the road, so a touch screen is fine.

I just don't like cars that don't have rotary knobs

Auto headlights, auto climate, steering wheel button for volume / voice control, voice control for music, voice control or handwriting for nav, bigass drive mode button.

Idk, I think the screens are fine.

Why do you even need a volume knob? Turn off the radio and listen to that sweet exhaust note....

For the love of god, how hard is it to have bloody physical buttons for things???

I REALLY hate how most EVs think they need to have friggin’ touchscreens for everything...

There is no tactile feedback on a screen. You cannot ‘feel’ where you are pressing on a screen without taking your eyes off the road. Give me a damn switch or button any day!

I use the dash-mounted knob in the i3 all the time. It’s perfectly placed, easy to reach. The interior is one of the most user-friendly I’ve ever been in, with actual, tactile buttons for the important stuff.

Steering wheel looks to have three separate buttons/wheels/selectors. Lower right dial would likely still be used for selecting drive modes as it is on other models (or programmed to whatever you want).

I’m fine with having those selector buttons bring up options on the screen right in front of me. H ow well it functions remains to be seen. I do wish they were able to use the outside cameras with inside screens instead of side view mirrors.

Found the high-res version. That’s plenty of dials and knobs for me, and you don’t even have to move your hands far from the wheel.

Not agreeing with the lack of buttons... But for real, both our new cars have auto headlights, we set the switches to the auto position and haven’t touched them again since. The Kona even has auto dimming that works really well, so we basically touch the headlight stalk once to enable high-beam and then never again that drive.

Exposed fasteners! In a Porsche!

Actually, both sides of the wheel are just two more touchscreens.  They change the display randomly to mess with the purists!

That article is clickbait trash. When was the last time a high end car owner turned on their headlights? My shitty BMW from 2004 has auto headlights. So does my truck. So it is a function not accessed very often. The premise that the screens freeze at that exact moment is dumb. It looks like there is a dedicated area for the buttons to turn them on so it really isn’t that bad.

Overall I’m not super looking forward to when those screens fail 20 years down the road, but I don’t think anyone expects to be using the same electric car tech by then.

Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is starting to have issues, so it’s possible that they’ll fail before the rest o f the car does.

Also, even with auto headlights, you’ll still have to turn on foglights when its foggy.
